Local NPO smashes world record and feeds thousands

Ladles of Love has broken the world record after attracting Capetonians to help them make a staggering 304 583 sandwiches. The sandwiches were made in an hour on the 18th of July 2020.

The initiative aligns with 67 minutes campaign, celebrated on Nelson Mandela’s birthday every year. The 67 minutes campaign focuses on devoting 67 minutes of your time to make a difference in someone else’s life.

Ladles of love is a volunteer-run soup kitchen in Cape Town, providing healthy food to people in need. The organisation exceeded the current South African record by almost 18 000 and smashed the world record by almost 68 000. The sandwiches were dispatched into the NGO’s networks, giving a meal to over 300,000 people.

“This attempt wasn’t just about breaking the record, our aim is to change the COVID-19 story and demonstrate the true spirit of Ubuntu and continue feeding the hungry,” said Founder of Ladles of Love, Danny Diliberto.
