PCR tests to begin in Victoria Falls.

The Zimbabwe government has moved to strengthen the country’s national testing capacity for COVID-19 after realising that there have been more infections recorded than recoveries.

Tourist attraction, Victoria Falls will be conducting PCR tests amid coronavirus. The town has been the first to record a COVID-19 case and has also been lagging behind on the pandemic results.

The government intends to decentralise testing and strengthen COVID-19 response capacity. The Hwange District Medical Officer, Dr Fungai Mvura confirmed that the resort town of Victoria Falls is expected to start PCR tests very soon.

“We have in the past faced challenges in as fast as testing and getting results on time. We have had a few people who have stayed beyond the time they were expected to stay. We trust that by the end of this we will be able to conduct PCR tests here in Victoria Falls,” said Dr Mvura.

Dr Mvura has applauded and thanked the nation for the level of cooperation between the Victoria Falls COVID-19 Taskforce and the Pezulu Lodge Quarantine Centre where the returning citizens are kept though paying for their living costs.

The government has approved private facilities like lodges to be quarantine centres due to lack of proper quarantine centres as the country is economically sinking. These facilities have been cooperatin well with the government regulations as testified by Dr Mvura.

“Following government decision allowing the use of approved private facilities, one private facility has been approved here in Victoria Falls where people can go for quarantine. So far the facility has been doing well and cooperating well with the relevant government arms,” said Mvura.
