Artist gives hope through art amid pandemic.

28 year old Marondera born artist, Lawrence Nyemba has unveiled his latest COVID-19 themed canvas painting during the national lockdown pandemic period.

“We have to cope with the situation and find ways to contain the global pandemic. In as far as the painting is concerned l had to make use of the old lady in the portrait to raise awareness of the pandemic and in our African culture old age is associated with wisdom,” he said.

During the COVID-19 pandemic period, the creative industry has had the important role of harnessing the power of art to bring hope to humanity.Very few artists can afford to donate to COVID-19 relief but many can give back to the community using their talent, comments Nyemba.

“This is my way of communication as an artist. This is how l get to tell the world different stories and it is my hope to auction this piece of art and assist those families affected by the COVID-19 pandemic,” said the artist.

‘We have to remain optimistic that this global pandemic will come to an end. It will not remain like this, brighter days are certainly on the horizon and we shall once again welcome tourists to our beautiful town,” said Nyemba.
