A project ventured by Senator Molly Mpofu has come to the Magwegwe West Suburb of Bulawayo in Zimbabwe in support of changing the lives of the vulnerable in the community.
With the influence of the First Lady, Auxillia Mnangagwa, The Magwegwe community has been given a chance to improve and uplift their livelihoods after recently setting up a mother and child community agricultural project in the area.
The project aims to help the less privileged secure a better future in the next five years. The initiative is being carried out on a 1,5 hectare piece of land leased to the community. The project is a direct response to the high number child headed families and people with disabilities in the community.
With the help of the first lady and the government, Senator Molly says different crops will be produced in the area. This will call for more support in the form of implementation, security and equipment for the project to reach its full potential.
“As Senator, l noted that people discriminate among each other politically but when they are working here as a team, they learn to work as people of Zimbabwe. That is what motivated me,” said Mpofu.
Phillip Karanga, chairman of the ward 8 residents supported the project and hoped it would go a long way in sustaining the members of the Magwegwe community. He also highlighted that as the chairman he would give all his support were it was needed.
“This is a community issue and l am glad that vulnerable members of our community will be able to feed their families through this project,” Karanga commented.
