Nando’s Welcomes Firefighters

The more than 200 firefighters who fired up a Canadian airport with their singing and dancing, are back on home soil. In June 2023, the firefighters from our very own Department of Forestry, Fisheries and Environments Working on Fire programme were sent to help tame the flames of the more than 550 wildfires that the Canadian province of Alberta has experienced this season.

The group is now back in Mzansi. They landed at Kruger International Airport in Mpumalanga this past weekend to a warm welcome as they were greeted by friends, family, local community members, and an unforgettable atmosphere.

Their return home serves as a powerful testament to the unbreakable spirit and resolve of South Africans, bringing a little relief – and a whole lot of gees – wherever we go.
