MTN SA Foundation donates R500 000 to Gift of the Givers’ efforts aiding victims of Western Cape floods

The recent heavy rain in the Western Cape has caused massive distress to so many, wreaking havoc in a number of town and communities. In response to the disaster, the MTN SA Foundation has again extended a helping hand to Gift of The Givers by donating R500 000 to the aid organisation which has mobilised to assist affected communities in the region.

The MTN SA Foundation’s R500 000 donation will be used to reinforce the relief operations of Gift of the Givers, says Arthur Mukhuvha, General Manager at the MTN SA Foundation. “Our extended partnership with Gift of the Givers, in 2023 alone, has seen MTN assisting Gift of the Givers in its efforts following the Johannesburg Central fire last month, the Hammanskraal cholera crisis in May, and the Cape’s West Coast floods in July,” Mukhuvha explains.

“The financial support allocated following this current disaster will enable Gift of the Givers’ trained rescue and relief personnel to expand their on-the-ground assistance. They will be able to provide critical aid, including blankets and food parcels, to those who are most vulnerable. This approach ensures that resources are used efficiently, avoiding duplication of efforts, and ensuring swift assistance reaches those victims who need it most.”

Mukhuvha continues to emphasise the Foundation’s dedication to making a tangible impact on underprivileged communities throughout the nation. “Through our partnership with Gift of the Givers, we are able to extend our work to directly assist communities affected by disasters.”

“The recent disaster in the Western Cape has resulted in severe challenges for residents. We take pride in being able to allocate our resources and collaborate with our chosen partners to alleviate the hardships faced by these communities and assist them in not only rebuilding, but also forging brighter and better tomorrow,” Mukhuvha concludes.

MTN SA Foundation and Gift of the Givers appeal the public and corporate organisations to contribute towards this intervention by visiting www.giftofthegivers.org/make-a-difference or 0800 786 911. Drop off points include Gift of the Givers Foundation offices across the country.
