To foster dental hygiene amongst young children, more than 2 500 ECD learners in the
Kimberley area, received dental services via a mobile truck as part of a public-private
partnership programme with the Department of Health and Education.
Taking place over a two-day period, Matla A Bokone Solar funded this dental marathon initiative
targeted at children between the ages of three to five, which also aimed at teaching ECD learners
how to look after their teeth from an early age.
“We decided to support this initiative to ensure every child has access to quality primary health care
services. By partnering with the Department of Health and Education we assist in streamlining
services and reducing clinical error,” explained Tshepo Kgoloane, Community Operations Manager
for Matla A Bokone Solar, which funds this programme.
The truck visited 50 local ECD centres during the December and January months, where learners
were given dental screenings and provided with a dental hygiene pack and relevant learning
material.
“We are grateful that Matla A Bokone Solar reached out to assist our ECD learners, just as they did
for the primary school students previously. The children were overjoyed and excited to receive
toothbrushes and learning materials,” said Elsie Makander, ECD Principal at Happy Tots.
