Albany donates bread loaves to vulnerable youth

Albany Bakeries, in partnership with the Lunchbox Fund and iKhaya le Langa, will donate more than 5,000 loaves of bread each month, and give access to educational programmes, to vulnerable youth across the Western Cape.

The loaves of bread, a staple for many in South Africa, will be distributed through 17 local charity organisations. Targeted youth will also have access to ‘Living and Learning’, a literacy and communication programme, and be offered critical entrepreneurship development skills. Waves for Change, a surfing programme run in Khayelitsha, will offers an important alternative recreational outlet for youth.

“Hunger and lack of education remains a consistent disabler for many in South Africa. This has a knock-on effect on the future prospects of our young people.

“With nourishment, learning and recreational opportunities, they have the opportunity to learn important skills, and have renewed hope and energy to thrive and unlock their full potential, which will have broader benefits for their entire communities,” says Khulula Sosibo, Albany Brand Manager.

Albany consumers will play their part in the initiative knowing that each time they purchase one of the brand’s products a child in need has a better opportunity at improving their prospects.

“It’s important that we work together as a nation to bring effective change within the communities that we serve. We believe in bringing people together for progress and a sense of belonging – Together its Where We Belong,” says Sosibo.

Albany Bakeries believes in bringing people together for progress within the communities that it serves, and its partners, the Lunchbox Fund and iKhaya le Langa, are likeminded in the brand’s belief that when we come together as a community we can overcome challenges
