Jackie Chan “Kung Fu” advert to help preserve endangered mammal

A new public service commercial featuring superstar actor Jackie Chan has been aired in Beijing to help restrict and preserve the life span of Pangolins.

The “Kung Fu” Pangolin advert was produced in collaboration with WildAid together with The Nature Conservancy to increase and encourage the preservation of Asian mammal. The advert supports the 2016 ban against the commercial pangolin trade which was certified by the United Nations.

According to World Wildlife (WWF ) the scaly anteaters are increasingly victims of illegal wildlife crime—mainly in Asia and in growing amounts in Africa—for their meat and scales. All eight species of pangolins are found on two continents. They range from Vulnerable to Critically Endangered. Furthermore, The mammal is protected under national and international laws, and two have also been listed as Critically Endangered on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species.

“The priority for pangolin conservation is reducing consumer demand and improving enforcement,”

says  WildAid CEO Pete Knights.

“Jackie reaches a vast audience across Asia and there are clear signs these campaigns have had an impact and attitudes are changing. Shark fin imports to China went down 81% in three years. Ivory seizures there were down 80% last year, and ivory and rhino horn prices have fallen by even  more.”

Knights concludes
