Six young activists who successfully advance inclusion (disability rights, anti-racism in South Africa, LGBTQ+ rights, girls’ education in Afghanistan, etc) will share their powerful stories and be awarded a prize for the remarkable impact they have driven in their communities.
A documentary on #YAS22 laureate C’est Prévue Emmy Lusila, founder of an orphanage for street children in the DRC, will be released on the digital media outlet Brut’s platforms as of 28 November. This documentary was co-produced by Brut and dev.tv.
A media kit containing license-free b-roll footage of the activists and their work on the ground, video soundbites (both in 16:9 and 9:16 formats), photographs and background information is now available here. A video news release featuring highlights of the Summit will be uploaded on Friday 2 December by 14.00 CET at the same link, as well as an interview of disability rights activist Keely Cat-Wells. This interview will be made available to the media ahead of The International Day of Disabled Persons on Saturday 3 December.
The Official Summit to be streamed here (10.00 – 12.00 CET) will be followed by a press conference (12.30 – 13.30 CET) and Instagram Lives (15.00 – 16.00 CET) with the laureates.
Entitled “Together we Thrive”, the Young Activists Summit’s fourth edition focuses on inclusivity and solidarity, and will honour six young laureates from all around the world:
Pashtana Durrani, 24, Afghanistan – Underground schools for girls
Zulaikha Patel, 19, South Africa – Anti-racism
Sameer Jha, 21, USA – Safe classrooms for LGBTQ+ students
C’est Prévue Emmy Lusila, 21, DRC – Protecting street children
Sebastián Benfeld
, 21, Chile – A pollution-free environment & protecting environmental defenders
Keely Cat-Wells, 26, UK/USA – Promoting disabled talent & changing mindsets through entertainment
They will answer questions from the audience online and onsite.
The Summit will bring together 600 young people from the Geneva region and many more online. It will be streamed live in French, English, Spanish, and Arabic. #YAS22 will pay tribute to youth taking action worldwide, and feature young activists from all around the world on screens throughout the event. The three first editions combined gathered participants from 153 countries.
The Summit is co-organized by the United Nations Office at Geneva, the NGO dev.tv, Radio Télévision Suisse (RTS) and its Genève Vision label, and the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies.
