Operation smile breaks record for children

Operation Smile and the Girl Guides of the Cape West will be attempting to achieve a Guinness World Record by making the longest string of plastic bottle tops on April 4 at the Old Mutual Sports Grounds in Pinelands.

Bottle Tops were redirected from the Faircape Million Smile Campaign and will be donated to Operation Smile after the event to fund a cleft lip and or cleft palate surgery.

The Smile Foundation says Operation Smile is a medical NGO that provides free safe surgeries for children and adults born with a cleft lip or a cleft pallet.

“I will give credit to the Girl Guides of the Western Cape, they approached Operation Smile and they decided to take on this challenge so we will be working together with them. It’s their challenge that they are going to be doing which we will be facilitating added Adva Brivik Prince from the Smile Foundation.

Bottle tops can also be dropped at the municipal libraries in Sea Point, Bellville, Bothasig, Athlone, Brackenfell, Goodwood, Parow, Fish Hoek, Observatory, Rondebosch, Pinelands, Table View as well as Table View Mall. For details call Ursula Nicol on 084 012 9986 or 021 556 4777.
