Church holds a clean-up campaign amid pandemic

The Church of Scientology in South Africa is a non-profit corporation (NPC) that is committed to bringing change in the society. To decrease the spread of COVID-19, the Midrand-based organisation has been educating people about the coronavirus and has helped sanitise buildings and public spaces in the area.

Several buildings in Midrand have been sanitised by the church including, 1,1 million vehicles furthermore, 300 partnerships have been created with government offices, municipalities and other religious groups.

President of the organisation Gaetane Asselin said, “We have many reasons to be proud of our accomplishments. To know that we were available at all times of day for our country and its citizens was very important to us. We considered it both our duty and pleasure to be able to assist. The smile and peace of mind of people after we assisted them were our ‘pay’ and it was gratifying.”

“When people from other groups started to join us because they too wanted to assist, that was really fantastic. They too had a taste of what it means to help one’s fellow man for no money. It is just a different but very rewarding experience.”
