SMME programme helps build sustainable women-owned businesses

Vinolia Maruping, a driven entrepreneur from the small town of Wolmaranstad in the North West Province, is an inspiration for women in her community. She is one of eight entrepreneurs benefiting from a local SMME Acceleration and Support Programme, designed to empower local businesses and stimulate economic growth.

The programme, funded as part of Bokamoso Solar’s Enterprise Development Programme, has been instrumental in Vinolia’s entrepreneurial journey. It provides participants with the tools and resources necessary to build sustainable businesses that positively impact their communities.

“The programme has taught me a lot about growing in business and where to pull up my socks. Through the training, I have gained valuable insights into business growth strategies, enabling me to identify areas for improvement and build a stronger foundation for my business,” said Vinolia.

This entrepreneur started her company,  in September 2018, with a vision to provide a variety of services, including construction, transportation, and catering. Located in the Tswelelang township, her business has made a name for itself through partnerships with several local departments, contributing to the local economy.

For Vinolia, Women’s Day is particularly meaningful as a businesswoman. She reflects, “It is a powerful reminder of the unity and strength of women from all walks of life. It’s an opportunity to celebrate women’s achievements and contributions without being constrained by divisions of nationality, ethnicity, language, culture, or politics.”

Looking ahead, Vinolia dreams of expanding her business further, creating more job opportunities for locals, and continuing to contribute to her community’s development.
