In the spirit of giving back, Cresta Shopping Centre donated books that had been donated by shoppers over the Christmas period to Robin Hills Primary School on Thursday, 6 February 2020.
Over the festive season, Cresta Shopping Centre hosted their annual book drive at the Cresta Festive Charity Tree located at the Volpes court where shoppers were encouraged to donate pre-loved and new books.
This award-winning initiative has been running since 2017, and through the years Cresta has managed to donate over 5000 books to a local charity. The support from the Randburg Community is what encouraged Cresta Shopping Centre to run yet another book drive, as shoppers who are both new and loyal to making book donations are eager to support causes that have a long-term impact to the future of children.
“Cresta shoppers’ are always looking for ways they can make impactful changes in the community; however, they don’t know where to begin. We are pleased that they see Cresta Shopping Centre as an outlet which provides them with opportunities to give back,” says Virginia Bester, General Manager of Cresta Shopping Centre.
“When we started the Cresta Festive Charity Tree in 2017, we did not think the initiative will grow to be what it is today. Over the years, we have collected and donated thousands of books to a local charity that Cresta supports, and this year we felt it was necessary to donate to a local primary school” adds Bester.
Robin Hills Primary School falls under the Randburg catchment area and its mission is to develop children with active and creative minds who have a sense of respect and compassion for others.
“Learners and teachers looked forward to the new books that had been donated by Cresta Shopping Centre. Our school library will be filled with books that we hope will ignite the imagination of young minds,” explains Pat Fanner, Robin Hills Primary School Principal.
“We are very appreciative to be working with an organization that cares for its community, especially where education is concerned. We would also like to thank each and every one who donated these books. It may seem like a small act, but such donations go a long way” adds Fanner.
