CILTSA Conference to Tackle ESG in Transport and Logistics

The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport South Africa (CILTSA) is set to host its annual ESG Conference on Thursday, 24 July 2025, under the theme “Measuring Impact and Managing Change.” Taking place at the Focus Rooms in Modderfontein, Johannesburg, the event will bring together industry leaders to explore how environmental, social, and governance (ESG) principles can reshape the transport, logistics, and supply chain sectors.

Now in its fourth year of sponsorship by Isuzu, the 2025 conference also marks the first partnership between CILTSA and SAPICS as an official event supporter—highlighting the growing importance of collaboration in addressing ESG imperatives.

CILTSA President Elvin Harris describes the conference as a “crucial catalyst for transformative change” in the industry, aiming to provide professionals with practical strategies and tools to embed ESG into their operations. “Our goal is to equip the sector with the knowledge needed to drive sustainability and build resilience,” Harris says.

The packed agenda includes high-level discussions on climate change, biodiversity, circularity, and the implications of international policy shifts on African development. A standout session, “Navigating Uncertainty: Global Volatility & African Sustainability: An ESG Perspective,” will tackle funding mechanisms and resilience strategies amid global volatility.

With the European Union’s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) set to take effect in 2026, a dedicated session titled “CBAM: Your Immediate Action Plan” will provide South African businesses with critical guidance on compliance. The session will cover practical steps, checklists, timelines, and how carbon pricing regulations could affect logistics costs and export viability.

The conference will also offer insights into ESG accountability and reporting, helping businesses understand the increasing enforcement of ESG measures and how to navigate the complex regulatory landscape.

SAPICS President Thato Moloi underscores the event’s relevance: “Robust and well-integrated ESG strategies can significantly strengthen supply chains. This conference is a platform to explore how those strategies can drive sustainable growth and economic development across Africa.”

The 2025 CILTSA ESG Conference promises to be a pivotal event for professionals across the value chain, delivering actionable insights to align operations with the future of sustainable business.
