Zimbabwe President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa has donated 5000 motorbikes to the Agriculture ministry in a bid to help Agritex extension officers carry out their duties in respective communities.
The Agriculture ministry has a mandate of boosting food production in the country with the help of Agritex extension officers. The donation of motorbikes to these officers will benefit the society itself as food production for the nation will increase.
Agritex officers are currently distributing food parcels to vulnerable communities from the Agriculture ministry. The distributions have been slow and tiresome as they had no fast transport to help them carry out the job. The motorbikes will increase the rate of the delivery of food parcels to vulnerable communities.
The donation was made by Sweet Valley Seeds and FSG with the aim of helping the nation move forward interms of food production. The donation was received by the President who later handed the 5000 motorbikes to the Ministry of Lands, Agriculture, Water, Climate and Rural Resettlement.
While accepting the donation, Minister of Lands, Agriculture, Water, Climate, and Rural Resettlement Perrance Shiri said:
“At the centre of all our growth and development programmes is the key role of extension services, having a responsive agricultural extension service system enables appropriate training backstopping.”
Agritex officers around the country have been sending their gratitude messages towards the gesture by the two local companies. They also highlighted how work will be made easier with the use of the motorbikes and this will benefit the nation as a whole.
Speaking about the donation and what prompted them to donate the motorbikes, Sweet Valley Seeds Director Themba Nkatazo said,“We believe that a motivated extension worker will bring the required yield. This will go a long way in helping our extension workers to assist the farmers in attaining food security.”
