Zimbabwe airlines are making plans to resume all flights into the country in the next coming few weeks as things seem to normalise in the country with few new coronavirus cases recorded of late.
The country has been under lockdown for three months since the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic. This lockdown suspended all flight movements in the country as people were not allowed to travel as a measure of preventing the spread of the pandemic.
Zimbabwe stopped all regional and international flights in respect of the government calls to reduce the spread of the pandemic. The government stated that the lives of the people mattered the most thus it was important to shut down all airlines.
CAAZ acting director-general Margaret Mathiziba gave word to the Press that flights would soon resume but it would take time for them to operate as normal as they were before the coronavirus pandemic.
“The figures are not good because there was a total shutdown for the sector as countries closed their borders. There was absolutely no movement at all. There is an opening now beginning to be seen and some airlines that used to fly here are now starting to make plans on how they can resume flights into the country. Eventually, we should see all flights resuming though it may take time,” said the director.
