Business programme empowers young women entrepreneurs

Coinciding with Women’s Month, the Young Women in Business Empowerment initiative, which is designed to assist 100 young women from within the Sol Plaatje and Dikgatlong local municipalities with new business compliance start-up kits, is launching its 2022 intake following the programme’s inaugural success last year.

Having successfully exceeded the programme’s initial target by 5%, Matla A Bokone Solar is launching the second intake soon. As the programme funder, the solar project is encouraging more young women aspirant entrepreneurs, who meet the criteria, to register for the 2022 programme, which commences this August.

“Developing and strengthening entrepreneurship is key to eliminating unemployment among the youth of our communities. It is about investing in the people, so as to enhance their prosperity and quality of life,” said Lesego Mosiane, Community Liaison Officer for Matla A Bokone Solar.

As part of the programme, participants are assisted with registering their new private companies and issued with business start-up and compliance paperwork.  This will ensure that these businesses are compliant with regards to CIPC Company Registration: BBBEE Certificate; New Business Bank Account; Tax Clearance Certificate; Central Supplier Database Registration.

Additionally, the participants will take part in workshops conducted by representatives from SEFA (Small Enterprise Finance Agency) Northern Cape and SEDA (Small Enterprise Development Agency) Northern Cape, so that they can receive further business development support and small business financing.

“I’m excited to finally be venturing into this journey. I now have a compliant catering business, and I am looking forward to receiving health and safety inspectors at my small container,” concluded Brumilda Jass, Owner: Something Sassy and programme beneficiary.
