Clued Skateboarding Celebrates Community Through Skateboarding

Clued Skateboarding will bring skateboarders, families and communities together in Cape Town through a free event celebrating sport, creativity and youth development.

On Sunday, 21 June 2026, Cape Town’s CBD will transform into a vibrant celebration of skateboarding culture as Go Skateboarding Day Cape Town 2026 welcomes participants of all ages for a day of sport, community engagement and family-friendly entertainment.

Presented by Clued Skateboarding in partnership with Grand Skate Tour, Red Bull and Mission for Inner City Cape Town, the event aims to showcase skateboarding as far more than a recreational activity. Organisers see it as a powerful platform for youth empowerment, healthy lifestyles, mentorship, creative expression and positive engagement with public spaces.

The day will begin at Thibault Square, where participants will register and engage with partner activations before joining a managed skateboarding cruise through Cape Town’s CBD. The route will culminate at Company’s Garden, where the main programme of activities will take place throughout the afternoon.

According to Clued Skateboarding, the event is designed to create positive experiences for skateboarders, residents, tourists, businesses and community organisations while highlighting the growing role of skateboarding within South Africa’s urban culture.

“Go Skateboarding Day is about bringing people together and showing the positive role skateboarding can play in the city,” said Crispine Githinji Nderitu from Clued Skateboarding.

“Cape Town has an incredible skateboarding culture, and this event gives us an opportunity to celebrate that culture with families, businesses, visitors and the broader community. We want people to see skateboarders as athletes, creatives, mentors and active contributors to the city.”

Visitors can expect a festival atmosphere featuring skateboarding demonstrations, beginner lessons, open skate sessions, competitions, cash-for-tricks activations, live music, food vendors, sponsor activations and a range of family-friendly activities.

One of the event’s key objectives is to make skateboarding more accessible to young people. Through the Push Academy Youth Skate Clinic, children and beginners will have access to free skateboarding lessons, safety education, mentorship opportunities and confidence-building sessions delivered by experienced skateboarders.

The event also carries a deeper social message through the Skate Don’t Fade initiative, which honours the memory of Cape Town skateboarder Sebastian Dos Santos.

Established by members of the local skateboarding community, the initiative seeks to raise awareness around addiction, mental wellbeing and the importance of support systems for young people. Organisers hope the programme will demonstrate how skateboarding can provide a positive environment built around friendship, discipline, mentorship and personal growth.

By incorporating the initiative into Go Skateboarding Day, organisers are reinforcing the belief that sport and community can play a meaningful role in helping young people navigate life’s challenges.

For families celebrating Father’s Day weekend, the event offers an opportunity to spend quality time together while enjoying outdoor activities in one of Cape Town’s most iconic public spaces. The emphasis on non-alcoholic beverage partners, healthy lifestyle brands and inclusive participation reflects the organisers’ commitment to creating a safe and welcoming environment for everyone.

Go Skateboarding Day Cape Town 2026 also aims to challenge outdated perceptions about skateboarding. Organisers believe the city’s unique architecture, public spaces, climate and established skateboarding community position Cape Town as one of Africa’s emerging skateboarding destinations.

Throughout the day, participants and spectators will witness how skateboarding promotes resilience, creativity, confidence and community connection while creating opportunities for young people to develop valuable life skills.

As skateboarders roll through the city and gather in Company’s Garden, the event will serve as a reminder that skateboarding is not only a sport but also a culture capable of bringing people together, creating opportunities and strengthening communities.

Go Skateboarding Day Cape Town 2026 takes place on Sunday, 21 June from 12pm. Entry is free and open to the public.
