1000 job opportunities for Cape Town youth

Young job seekers in Cape Town will have access to direct employment pathways when A Day of 1000 Opportunities returns to Athlone Stadium on 16 April 2026.

Hosted by CapeBPO and supported by the City of Cape Town, the initiative connects unemployed youth with career opportunities in the growing Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) sector.

The event runs from 08:00 to 17:00, with attendees required to bring a certified copy of their ID or driver’s licence. Marshals will be on site to guide participants through the registration and interview process.

According to James Vos, the initiative forms part of a broader strategy to unlock employment opportunities in one of the city’s fastest-growing industries.

“This isn’t just another job fair,” said Vos. “Together with 12 major contact centre operators, CapeBPO will offer practical career guidance, interviews and training opportunities for young people who are eager to enter the workforce.”

Companies confirmed to participate include ATM, Boomerang, BYC Aqua (an MCI company), Capita, Concentrix, DSG, EXL, Foundever, IGT Solutions, TP SA, TTEC and WNS/Ucademy.

The BPO sector continues to be a significant contributor to job creation in Cape Town, employing more than 100 000 people across the city. Demand for skilled talent is expected to grow as more global companies establish contact centre operations locally.

Clayton Williams highlighted the importance of collaboration between public and private sector partners in creating accessible career pathways.

“A Day of 1000 Opportunities shows what can be achieved when industry partners work together with a clear focus on employment. We are creating practical pathways for young people to enter the sector and build sustainable careers,” he said.

Requirements to attend:

  • Grade 12 certificate or equivalent
  • Aged between 18 and 34
  • Currently unemployed
  • No criminal record
  • Based in the Western Cape

Interested participants can register online ahead of the event.

The initiative aims to reduce barriers to employment by providing direct engagement between employers and job seekers, helping young people take their first step into the formal economy.
