Plascon Supports Youth Upliftment

Plascon is helping transform neglected community spaces in Ravensmead while supporting youth empowerment initiatives aimed at reducing crime, gangsterism and urban decay in the area.

The paint brand recently partnered with the HOOD Youth Development Project, a community-based non-profit organisation operating in Uitsig, Ravensmead, in the Western Cape, to support its Dignify the Youth initiative through a paint donation focused on community upliftment.

The initiative encourages at-risk youth to participate in positive community projects such as painting over gang-related graffiti, restoring neglected public spaces and assisting elderly residents with exterior home improvements.

According to HOOD Youth Development Project representative Adam Alexander, the programme is designed to create positive alternatives for young people living in high-crime environments.

“Our area struggles with high levels of crime and gangsterism, and many young people are at risk of being drawn into negative activities,” said Alexander.

“By involving them in positive community work such as painting, cleaning and planting, we aim to divert them from crime and guide them toward responsibility, teamwork and pride in their environment.”

Through the partnership, Plascon and the Dignify the Youth initiative also provided exterior paint makeovers for six elderly residents and the local community centre.

Plascon Head of Marketing Leslie Frank said the project reflects how practical community partnerships can create visible and meaningful change.

“It is inspiring to see how our paint directly transforms derelict spaces into clean and colourful areas for the community to enjoy,” said Frank.

The initiative forms part of broader community-led efforts to reclaim public spaces, restore dignity and encourage safer environments for residents affected by gang activity and neglect.
