A Social Entrepreneur and Philanthropist commits to Empowering Vulnerable Children in rural areas

A passionate social entrepreneur, philanthropist, and avid hiker, is once again putting his love for the outdoors to work on a worthy cause. Tebogo Mahuma is known, among his peers, for organizing impactful events that uses proceeds to raise awareness and provide support for vulnerable, disadvantaged, and orphaned children in rural areas.

Some of the successful events he has set up Camping sites for include amongst others the popular annual Moshoeshoe Annual Walk,  taking place in Lesotho, Desert Bush Walk taking place in Botswana, Maoto Mpepe Hiking Extravaganza, taking place in Clarens, and the Swadini Crossover. These initiatives reflect his dedication to leveraging outdoor activities for social good.

Tebogo is currently focusing on raising funds for the upcoming 14th annual Bakwena Walk 4 Charity, an event close to his heart that he co-conceptualized with his late brother. The event, set to take place on Saturday, 07 December 2024, at Bethanie Sports Grounds, is aimed at benefiting the community in his hometown of Bethanie including surrounding villages – Modikwe, Barseba, Makolokwe and Maumong near Brits in the Northwest Province.

The Bakwena Walk 4 Charity is designed to highlight the pressing challenges faced by vulnerable, disadvantaged, and orphaned children in his community. In addition to raising awareness, the event seeks to generate non-monetary support, such as school shoes and sanitary pads, and old clothes to alleviate the hardships these children face.

Beneficiaries of this year’s event include Bakwena ba Mogopa Home Based Care, an organization that addresses social and welfare issues, with a specific focus on orphaned and vulnerable children, including those with disabilities.

Despite the challenges of securing sponsorships, Tebogo’s company, Avoir Corporate Healthcare (ACH), covers 70% of the event’s costs, demonstrating his unwavering dedication to the cause.

As Tebogo prepares for the 14th annual Bakwena Walk 4 Charity, he continues to seek additional support from sponsors and donors to expand the reach of his philanthropic work, ensuring a brighter future for the children in his community.
