As part of its commitment to fostering entrepreneurship and empowering drivers, Bolt, the leading mobility platform, ran its annual Bolt Driver League challenge in late 2021, with three winners driving off with brand new VW Polos.
The winners were Adam Kgagudi, a longstanding driver from Johannesburg, Nancy Pelusa from Johannesburg, who won the Women category, and John Webster, a new driver from Gqeberha.
Adam, who has connected with passengers via the platform for four years, was delighted with his win, telling attendees at the official handover ceremony that he was so grateful for the prize, and that he was ready to make Bolt proud.
Nancy is one of the many women drivers who operate on the Women-Only category, offering women passengers in Johannesburg the choice of a woman driver. She mentioned that she is going to use her new vehicle to grow her already successful e-hailing micro business.
John Webster, who won the category for new drivers, set his sights on winning the car as soon as he saw the campaign announced. “I told my son-in-law that I was planning to win the car with the trips I did – and it happened! I’m really looking forward to driving with the Bolt platform for at least 15 to 20 years now!” he said.
To qualify for the three lucky draws, drivers had to be registered on the platform, and complete a minimum number of trips in a week. They received an entry in the draw for each week that they completed that goal.
“Vehicle ownership is that next step to prosperity, as drivers can earn more when they drive their own vehicle – or earn passive income if they choose to rent it out instead,” explains Gareth Taylor, Bolt’s Regional Manager for SADC.
“We have given away 18 cars to drivers in over the last five years because we want to recognise drivers’ efforts in transporting passengers safely and efficiently, and we want to encourage them to grow their own businesses to access even more economic opportunity.”
More than 40,000 drivers connect with passengers in towns and cities across South Africa using the Bolt platform. This has provided thousands access to convenient, reliable and safe connections to mobility which can be used for travelling to work or entertainment destinations.
