Sello Maake Ka-Ncube celebrates 40 years in the film and TV industry

With a career that spans over four decades, Sello Maake Ka-Ncube is a force to be reckoned with.The veteran actor was born in Orlando, Soweto on March 12, 1960. He grew up in Atteridgeville, Pretoria. He decided to change his name to Sello Maake Ka Ncube as a way of honouring the man who raised him, his late stepfather.

Growing up, he loved watching movies. This turned into a passion that would usher him into his successful career later in life. Maake Ka-Ncube began his acting career at the age of 15.“As an actor, you are a channel for all the aspects of the human condition and acting forms, a very intricate part of how I look at life and understand life and how life presents itself to me”.

He turned 60 this year and celebrating 40 years in the film and television industry.Mr Maake kaNcube founded a non-profit organisation called the Sello Maake kaNcube Foundation.Its objective is in decentralizing the appreciation of arts and culture and engendering social cohesion and excellence through the performing arts. Under the Umbrella of the Foundation, he started a Gender based violence campaign called AfriMan Rising using a play he wrote in 1998called “Komeng” to raise GBV awareness through dialogue. He travels nationally in Men’s imbizo with various organisations trying to find Solutions through dialogues to combat the roots of
Gender based violence.

Mr Maake kaNcube has also started an academic incubator at the Merafong District through the Department of Sports, Arts, and culture, bringing artistic education to the outskirts of Gauteng and raising social cohesion awareness through performing arts.Mr Maake kaNcube has recently produced a TV series called The Station, airing every Monday at 20:00 on Mzansi Magic.

He is currently directing a Gender based violence theatre play called ‘The Voice’ in collaboration with an all-female international Marimba band called Abafazi Bengoma.
