Ponds #IAMTHEFACEOFPONDS campaign crowns new fan favourite

After a lengthy nationwide search that spanned over three months, popular skincare brand POND’S finally announced the winner of the #IAMTHEFACEOFPONDS ambassador search competition. The winner Nomfundo Mlaba, a social media community manager and former journalist from Ezibomvini, from a small village outside Pietermaritzburg will be joining the ranks of Ayanda Thabethe and Thembi Seete as an official face of the brand. Over and above this, she walks away with prizes to the total value of R100 000 and the sought-after title – the 2019 Face of POND’S.

Since its launch in April this year, consumers have shown a significant interest in the competition, with the brand having garnered over 15 000 entries from women across the country – all with different features, qualities and phenomenal stories to tell. Nomfundo Mlaba’s story and unique look stood out and caught the attention of the South African public, who took to the polls to make their favourite known.

Aside from winning the coveted title of Face of POND’S, Nomfundo Mlaba will feature in the POND’S Lasting Oil Control campaign for 2019/2020. In addition, she will appear on the brand’s in-store assets, broadcast and digital campaigns, and receive a cash prize of R50 000. Nomfundo Mlaba will also have exclusivity to all POND’S events and receive a modeling portfolio to further her ambitions in the beauty space.

I am extremely excited and feel truly honoured to have won this competition. From growing up using POND’S, never had I imagined that I would be afforded this once in a lifetime opportunity. I look forward to the journey ahead and hope that through this, I will inspire other young women to broaden their horizons and reach for their dreams,” said Nomfundo Mlaba.

“POND’S thanks South Africa for their continued support over the decades. This competition has over the years changed the lives of many. We received thousands of entries from a diverse set of women who have once again shown us the beauty that lies in this country. It is with this, that the process of selecting only 10 finalists was no small feat for the brand, as so many of the entrants possess all the qualities and features that resonated with POND’S,” commented Bawinile Kwela, Marketing Manager for Hair and Face Care – Unilever. “Well done to the people’s choice, Nomfundo Mlaba – we absolutely cannot wait to embark on this journey with you.”
