The iconic SPAR Women’s Challenge Tshwane has officially launched its 2025 edition, set to take place on Saturday, 2 August 2025 at SuperSport Park in Centurion. With the theme #Twenty20Thrive, this year’s event continues the race’s long-standing tradition of uniting women and communities around causes that matter.
Now in its 28th year, the event has grown beyond a race to become a movement advocating for women’s empowerment, wellness, and solidarity. The 2025 launch includes a R60,000 charity donation to organisations working to combat gender-based violence, end period poverty, and promote women’s rights and well-being.
“For 28 years, the SPAR Women’s Challenge Tshwane has been more than just a race; it’s a movement that champions women, fosters community spirit, and inspires holistic well-being,” said Ralph Rajagopaul, Divisional Marketing Director – SPAR North Rand & Botswana.
The upcoming edition will continue to celebrate the power of women and collective action. Organisers have committed to enhancing the experience for participants, with updates including improved race apparel and the launch of the My Tshwane Challenge Magazine, which will feature stories about the event’s ambassadors and broader community initiatives.
The SPAR Women’s Challenge Tshwane has consistently combined sport with social responsibility, and 2025 will be no exception. As in previous years, the race will serve as a platform to amplify voices, raise awareness, and bring attention to critical social issues.
The launch will be marked across the city with support from local radio stations and long-time race ambassadors. The event also forms part of the broader SPAR Grand Prix series, and this year’s Tshwane race is expected to draw significant attention with the participation of elite athletes, including Glenrose Xaba, the current Grand Prix champion. Xaba continues to rise in the sport under the mentorship of Caster and Violet Semenya.
With its deep-rooted focus on community, health, and empowerment, the 2025 edition of the SPAR Women’s Challenge Tshwane aims to inspire a renewed sense of purpose among participants and supporters alike.
