Miss Earth SA 2019 crowns a new winner

Miss Earth South Africa 2019 has crowned a new winner, Lungo Katete is the lucky contestant who was announced as this year’s ambassador at the Tsogo Sun Hotels’ Rosa venue at the Palazzo at Montecasino earlier this month.

The architecture graduate Lungo Katete said that the process was difficult in the beginning because very few people supported her endeavor, however, once she found her support system she was at ease and could commit to the work fully.

“The campaign that we are pushing now is the #WasteStopswithMe campaign and at the beginning of the year for one of my first projects, I partnered with Fresh NGO. What we do is we go around cleaning wetlands. We come together to rehabilitate the area and plant trees. This is so that we can celebrate our beautiful planet.” said Katete

In a recorded message to the participants, Professor Thuli Madonsela said “It is all our responsibility to understand small inaction can have grave consequences for the country, continent, and the world.”

Through the #WasteStopsWithMe campaign, finalists were able to reach a number cities and communities including Johannesburg, Tshwane, Tembisa, Hartebeespoort, Cape Town, Soweto, Edenvale, the Midlands in KZN and Zakariya Park, Midrand and Bosmon.

Miss Earth SA 2019 runners up include L’Oreal Magro from Johannesburg, Moratwe Masima from  Stellenbosch followed by KwaZulu-Natal’s Victoria Soutar.
