Helplink Supports SA Trio in Epic PE2EL Ocean Race

Helplink, the platform helping South Africa’s micro-entrepreneurs formalise their businesses, is celebrating human spirit in a big way. This December, the organisation is proudly sponsoring three remarkable paddlers in the 250 km Port Elizabeth to East London (PE2EL) Ocean Canoe Challenge — a race known for testing courage, endurance and heart.

Helplink’s involvement is rooted in belief. Instead of choosing celebrity athletes or chasing commercial visibility, the organisation chose people whose stories reflect hope, grit and real South African resilience.

Sibusiso Zulu is a Helplink graduate who built his small business through patience, planning and sheer persistence. Now, he takes that same determination onto the open ocean. His journey shows how far someone can go when they are supported, encouraged and given skills that open doors.

Sandile Menjenjalo, a dedicated lifeguard who keeps others safe every day, is also part of the team. Through the sponsorship he not only races, but gains access to Helplink’s SETA-approved AI life-skills training. His story highlights how opportunity can reshape a person’s path.

Completing the trio is champion paddler Bevan Manson — a world-record holder and respected athlete who brings experience and mentorship. His calm strength and consistency reflect what’s possible when passion meets guidance.

Together, the three paddlers form a team that mirrors South Africa itself: hopeful, hardworking and determined to push forward no matter the conditions.

The PE2EL race is famous for wild waves, long hours and unpredictable coastline challenges. But it also has a way of revealing the best in those who take it on. Through this sponsorship, Helplink is celebrating ordinary people who carry extraordinary reserves of courage — not only in sport, but in business and in everyday life.

This partnership shines a light on stories that are often overlooked. It reminds us that talent exists everywhere, small beginnings can lead to life-changing milestones, and that when support meets effort, transformation happens.

From 3 to 6 December 2025, the trio will tackle one of the toughest ocean races in the world. Helplink will share their progress, uplifting moments and behind-the-scenes stories of grit, humour and teamwork.

It’s a celebration of everyday South Africans doing extraordinary things — and of the power of giving people a chance to grow.
