Sensitively renovated to provide a nurturing environment, the Batho Pele Clinic
at Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital in Soweto was recently upgraded through a
powerful partnership. Leading coatings company Plascon, together with
Plascon preferred paint applicator Pivot Painting and Renovation Solutions,
collaborated with the Dis-Chem Foundation, a community-care organisation,
and multinational cosmetics concern The Estée Lauder Companies, to bring a
fresh coat of paint, new chairs and furniture, and an inspirational mural to the
breast cancer clinic. The project, which was led by Dr Nivashini Murugan, Breast
Surgeon, Clinical Head of Unit, at Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital, aims to
create a more pleasant and uplifting environment for both oncology patients
and staff.
The initiative reflects a commonly held commitment to community support on
the part of the brands involved, who are joined by their desire to make an
impactful difference in facilities and environments that need them most.
‘Plascon and its esteemed partners share a commitment to social responsibility
and community upliftment,’ says Plascon’s Head of Marketing Leslie Frank. ‘This
initiative underscores our dedication to social responsibility and our belief in the
power of collaboration to create positive change. We thank our partners for
sharing a similar vision and making it happen.’
Shaun Megannon, Managing Director of Pivot Painting and Renovations
Solutions, noted that this project was close to their heart. ‘We readily support
community and development programmes that allow us an opportunity to
make meaningful changes and contribute towards the upliftment of
communities,’ he said.
Plascon is not only enhancing the physical environment but also offering hope
and support to patients and staff. ‘At Plascon, we believe that a splash of colour
can transform lives, and through this project we’re painting a brighter, more
hopeful future for those battling breast cancer,’ says Frank.
Chris Hani Baragwanath is the largest hospital in Africa and the third largest in
the world. The Batho Pele Clinic renovation will touch the lives of hundreds of
patients who visit this space annually for treatment, helping Dr Murugan and her
team to provide an environment that uplifts in challenging circumstances.
The formal unveiling event, held on 5 March to celebrate the newly refurbished
space, was attended by Dr Muragan and her team, as well as representatives
from Plascon, the Dis-Chem Foundation, Pivot Painting and Renovations
Solutions and The Estée Lauder Companies.
