New Report Maps Cape Town’s Growth Path

Cape Town has launched a new Market Intelligence Report aimed at strengthening economic growth, improving investment decision-making and supporting job creation across the metro.

The data-driven publication tracks economic performance, investment trends and sector activity, providing both government and industry with consolidated insights into employment patterns, business performance and growth opportunities.

Economists participating in the launch placed the report within South Africa’s broader economic context, reflecting on national fiscal pressures and the operating environment facing metros as they work to stimulate local growth.

The report focuses on translating economic data into practical policy action. Key sectors monitored include manufacturing, tourism, trade and business services, with indicators measuring investment flows, sector output and ease of doing business.

The initiative reinforces a shift toward evidence-based policymaking, using measurable trends to guide regulatory reform, infrastructure planning and enterprise support programmes.

Alongside the report, six priority policy areas were outlined to strengthen competitiveness and unlock economic opportunity. These include support for manufacturing, reforms to public trading regulations, an updated tourism development framework, improved support for small businesses, continued ease-of-doing-business reforms and the expansion of sector-focused partnerships in high-growth industries such as technology and business process outsourcing.

The Market Intelligence Report is intended to serve as both a benchmark and a planning tool, helping align policy decisions with real economic conditions while positioning Cape Town as an attractive destination for investment and business expansion.
