MultiChoice Group Backs African Producers.

MultiChoice Group is creating new commissioning opportunities for African producers, giving shortlisted storytellers direct access to television decision-makers seeking original drama projects from across the continent.

The company, now part of CANAL+, has been announced as Super Sponsor of FAME Week Africa 2026, with the partnership extending beyond event sponsorship to create practical opportunities for African producers, creators and storytellers.

FAME Week Africa will take place from 28–30 October 2026 at the Cape Town International Convention Centre, followed by the FAME Film Festival from 30 October to 1 November at the Rockefeller Hotel.

At the centre of MultiChoice Group’s involvement is a new Premium Drama Call for Projects, inviting producers from across Africa to submit original drama series concepts for consideration.

The call is seeking contemporary, high-concept and commercially compelling African drama featuring strong characters and universal themes. Projects should also demonstrate the potential to connect with audiences across two or more African territories.

Shortlisted producers will be invited to pitch their projects directly to a commissioning panel from MultiChoice Group and STUDIOCANAL, CANAL+’s film and television production and distribution studio.

The initiative creates a direct connection between African producers developing original intellectual property and commissioners actively searching for new content.

“MultiChoice Group has spent decades investing in African stories, talent and production, and we know the extraordinary creative potential that exists across the continent,” said Nomsa Philiso, Executive Vice President: Content, CANAL+ Africa.

“FAME Week Africa gives us an important opportunity to connect directly with producers and discover compelling new stories. As part of CANAL+, we can build on that strong foundation and create even greater opportunities for African storytelling to reach audiences across the continent and beyond.”

The Premium Drama Call will operate alongside the established MIP Africa Project Pitch Platform, providing another route for African producers to place projects directly in front of potential commissioners.

This moves MultiChoice Group’s participation beyond conventional event sponsorship by linking its investment to opportunities for content development, industry access and potential commercial partnerships.

“Having MultiChoice Group join FAME Week Africa as our Super Sponsor is significant for Africa’s creative industries,” said Martin Hiller, Portfolio Director, FAME Week Africa.

“This partnership is about creating tangible opportunities for African storytellers and building stronger bridges between talent, investment and audiences. The Premium Drama Call brings that commitment to life by giving producers direct access to commissioners looking for African stories.”

MultiChoice Group has invested in local productions, creative talent and African storytelling across its markets for decades. Its position within CANAL+ now connects that experience with the production and distribution capabilities of a wider international entertainment group.

The partnership comes as Africa’s creative economy continues to create opportunities across production, television, film, animation, music and related industries.

FAME Week Africa brings broadcasters, streaming platforms, producers, distributors, creators, investors and other industry stakeholders together to develop partnerships and commercial opportunities.

MultiChoice Group will participate through commissioning opportunities, industry conversations, networking and direct engagement with producers and creators.

For African producers, the Premium Drama Call provides a defined pathway to present original work to commissioners, while FAME Week Africa provides the wider platform for developing the industry relationships required to take African stories from concept to screen.
