With the latest research in place, the most important issue is keeping the windows open and making sure there is enough airflow, as this can dramatically lower the infection rate for our South Africans.
None the less, taxi commuters were not happy following the government’s suggestion to open windows on their way to work, to minimize the chances of contracting Coronavirus.
SDI Force in partnership with Bridge Taxi Finance and FNB suggested a viable solution to this dilemma by implementing the Adopt-a-Safe-Passage to Work/School campaign to decrease the risk of infection in taxis by up to 80%.
Providing this safe passage involved an intricate process that comprises of thorough checks, custom-made equipment, changes to behaviour and the clear distribution of important information.
These measures include full sanitisation of taxis, a barrier between drivers and commuters, hand sanitising stations on entry and exit and the installation of ventilation spacers on windows to ensure adequate airflow.
On the 18th of July, 300 taxis were fitted with COVID- 19 compliant checks at Bree Taxi Rank. Another group of 300 taxis were fitted in Soweto, Johannesburg.
