Standard Bank announces the “Achieva Issue”; set to put local first movers on magazine cover

Standard Bank is teaming up with lifestyle magazine, Sowetan S-Mag, to deliver what they’ve dubbed the “AchievaTM Issue”. This edition of the quarterly magazine, set to drop in August, will feature local first movers including budding creators, as well as a nurse, teacher, call centre operations professional and a human capital specialist. The announcement comes hot on the heels of the launch of AchievaTM, the bank’s new offering designed to journey with their middle market customers as they grow and evolve, delivering tailored solutions and services that meet major milestones – from that first degree to the first car or home and more. The cover, the bank says, is meant to celebrate the firsts these cover stars and others like them are reaching and the strides they’re making in doing so.

“Reaching any key life milestone is an achievement. But to do so within the current South African context is a feat worth highlighting and praising. Just as our Achieva offering was designed to enable future growth and legacy, so too is this cover experience. With it we want to encourage our middle market customers (or “Achievas” as they’re affectionately known to us), to work towards their firsts and to know there is bank that will back and partner with them on the journey to each milestone and beyond,” says Standard Bank’s Brand and Marketing Head of Youth, Mass and Middle Market, Itumeleng Matlaila.

The Achievas set to grace the upcoming cover are known to their families (and communities at large) for being ambitious and eagerly going after what they desire. And they have incredible stories of firsts to show for it. It’s for this reason that they’ve been chosen to share their inspiring journeys in this way. Said cover stars include:

  • TikTok sensation, Banele “Moghelingz” Ndaba,
  • Content creator, Wendy Gumede aka The Black Wendy,
  • Singer/songwriter, Khuzani Mpungose,
  • New kid on the block, social media influencer, Ross Turner,
  • Teacher, Danilo Mngwengwe,
  • Professional Nurse, Thandi Mathibela,
  • Call Centre Operations Coordinator, Logan Lawson, and
  • Human Capital Consultant and content creator, Luyanda Duma.

“Our goal with this cover is to  inspire Achievas by giving them access to success stories that they can identify with – stories that speak to what it really takes to get to your firsts and to make those firsts last. Each one of them is exciting, each one is a big moment, and each one is a reflection of the aspirations we at Standard Bank want to help enable,” Matlaila adds.
