South Africa’s premier development rugby tournament – Iqhawe Week, will kick-off on Monday, 23rd September 2019 in Paarl, Western Cape. This tournament, created by the South African Rugby Legend Association (SARLA) with SA Rugby aims to source new rugby talent where many of the players come from rural, underprivileged areas and non-traditional rugby schools. The programme functions as both a selection pool for under-15 talent, as well as an opportunity for participants to receive educational assistance. The Player of the Tournament receives a full-time bursary and scholarship at a traditional rugby-playing school, as well as additional academic assistance from donors.
Stefan Terblance, CEO of SARLA said, “Every year, we see new talent developing right before our eyes at the Iqhawe Week. We’re so proud of the impact we’ve been able to have on these young people’s lives through opportunities in sport. We hope that the positivity and spirit we see at Iqhawe Week will cause a chain reaction in communities throughout the country, uplifting generations to come”.
Iqhawe Week is a part of SARLA’s broader mission to achieve transformation and social upliftment in rugby by creating opportunities for development at the most basic level. To read more about SARLA and Iqhawe Week, visithttp://www.sarugbylegends.com
