Athletics South Africa acknowledges Spar’s contribution to athletics

Athletics South Africa (ASA) has acknowledged the massive and long-standing contribution to athletics by retail giant SPAR. ASA President James Moloi presented SPAR with a recognition award at the ASA 2023 Awards dinner at the weekend.

Accepting the award, SPAR National PHR, Communications and Sponsorship Manager, Mpudi Maubane, said SPAR was very appreciative of the recognition by ASA.

“We value our partnership with ASA,” said Maubane.

“SPAR has sponsored women’s road running for 35 years and is one of ASA’s longest standing sponsors.

“Through our investment we have empowered women, encouraged a healthy lifestyle and provided many talented South African and African women to achieve on the national and international stage,” said Maubane.

SPAR sponsors the annual SPAR Women’s Challenge Series of 10km races and 5km Fun Runs at centres around South Africa. This is the world’s biggest women-only series of races. The sponsorship also includes the SPAR Grand Prix, which serves as a motivational platform for women to compete at a high level. Many of the elite runners competing in the SPAR Grand Prix have gone on to national and international success.
