A glimpse into Boitumelo Diseko’s inner-city Johannesburg gallery

By Nokuthula Khwela

An elite art gallery dubbed as ‘Inspirational art space’ in Johannesburg’s inner city houses autonomous, pan-African contemporary artists. To the untrained eye, it appears to be nothing more than a 1970s light industrial building in the Maboneng Precinct that has been turned into a mixed-use building until one passes the threshold and discovers the building’s crown jewel, B Artworks Gallery.

B Artworks Gallery is a gorgeous, practical, and inspiring location in Maboneng, Johannesburg, owned by Boitumelo Diseko, a Visual Artist and the Founder of the art firm B Artworks Gallery. Diseko’s artworks are inspired by environmental psychology and the Christian faith. Diseko’s work examines how the environment influences us as humans and how God utilizes it to shape our character.

Environmental psychology is a multifaceted field that studies the interactions between people and their surroundings. It investigates how the natural and built environments influence us as persons. Diseko also employs a process known as lineation, in which she examines memory and identity inscribed onto a landscape.

It is a one-of-a-kind location for the city’s creative community to develop and discuss ideas, as well as participate in a variety of new events.

B Artworks Gallery is an art gallery that communicates tales via art. Everything they do is to inspire people to be the works of art that God has made them to be. B Artworks Gallery is a small gallery featuring high-quality and distinctive artworks by South African and foreign artists.
