Averaging the fixing of more than 500 streetlight-related faults per day, between 14 August and 10 September 2024 a massive 14 363 streetlight-related faults were attended to as part of its streetlight fixing intervention to enhance turnaround times especially amid the high levels of theft, vandalism and illegal connections impacting streetlights. The City services more than 245 000 streetlights.

Energy Mayco Member, Alderman Xanthea Limberg, has continued visiting streetlight projects across the metro as new City streetlight interventions take flight.

‘I thank our teams on the ground for the massive efforts that are under way to ensure that the turnaround times of attending to streetlight-related faults are improved on. Fixing more than 14 000 streetlight-related faults over 28 days is an incredible achievement and testament to various interventions that we have implemented to improve turnaround times. Between 28 August and 10 September, 7 523 streetlight-related faults were attended to. Of these, a massive 3 471 faults were in Area South, largely driven by vandalism and theft-related damage. Area North followed with 2 136 faults, and Area East with 1 893 notifications attended to.

We are doing absolutely everything in our power to up our service offering and we can reach great heights if we strengthen our partnership with our residents. We urge our communities to report vandalism, theft and illegal connections to us. They can do so anonymously. We need to clamp down on these criminal acts to create brighter and safer communities,’ said Alderman Limberg.
