WeThinkCode_ brings industry on campus to launch Job Placement Drive

Each year, WeThinkCode_, one of South Africa’s leading software developer training academies, hosts a week-long partner expo that is designed to bring together students, business partners and prospective partners. The 2022 edition of this flagship event is being held from the 26th of September. “The partner expo is one of the highlights of our calendar, as it marks the start of the Placement process we facilitated to start matching our students to companies looking to host internships. Our partners enjoy engaging in a face-to-face setting like the campus expo because they get to know our students better and vice versa. Just like other partner days, the intention is to create a mutually beneficial engagement where students get to learn about possible career options and partners get to scope out talent,” says Kelebogile Motlhamme, Placement Manager at WeThinkCode_.

WeThinkCode_ has partnered with some of South Africa’s most recognisable businesses, including Momentum Metropolitan, Outsurance, BBD, BCX, FNB, StructureIT, DealX, MediClinic, Old Mutual, and others. These partnerships enable the academy to provide a reliable pipeline of tech talent to businesses that are facing challenges with skills shortages and struggling to access talent from traditional channels. This year 425 students will be going through the matching process to find suitable job placements within South African corporations and SMEs in Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban.

The annual placement process starts in October, and the Partner Expo Week marks a call to all businesses looking for tech skills pipelines to engage with potential candidates. The partner expo is being held at WeThinkCode_ campuses across the country, engaging placement partners within sponsorship and hiring segments. WeThinkCode_’s operating model allows SME partners to benefit from larger sponsoring partners who fund the training over and above their own hiring requirements. WeThinkCode_ is blazing a new path in the fields of youth employment and tech skills training through its innovative recruitment methodology, robust market relevant training and linkages to the industry.

“WeThinkCode_ was designed to harness the benefits of partnership. We are delighted that so many of our business partners have made repeat recruitments from our student body. Their confidence in the quality of our students and the effectiveness of our home-grown curriculum motivates us to go to great lengths to recruit exceptional talent from communities that are not usually associated with software developer pipelines,” says Nyari Samushonga, Chief Executive Officer at WeThinkCode_.

WeThinkCode_ is a software development training academy. Its mission is to recruit sharp young minds from underserved communities and train them to become work-ready software developers. The academy is tuition-free for students, enabling them to deliver quality tertiary education and direct pathways to meaningful work opportunities. In the context of South Africa’s current 63.5% youth unemployment rate and the local tech skills shortage, WeThinkCode_ acts as a bridge between talented young people and the economy. To date WeThinkCode has graduated over 700 young people and maintains a 90% permanent placement rate post-graduation.
