A training course has brought together twenty young people from Douglas, Northern Cape, to develop their Computer Sciences and Information and Communication Technology (ICT) skills.
Sponsored by Boikanyo Solar, as part of their Youth Skills Development Programme, this course is designed to build a foundational entry into the field of Computer Sciences and Information Technology, specifically into the field of Systems Development.
“Many young people in our communities are without jobs, so we have to invest in upskilling them to either enter the workforce or become entrepreneurs and create jobs in their own communities, for which ICT is a pertinent skill,” said Pamela Matyeka, Community Liaison Officer, Boikanyo Solar.
Through this credited course, participants will gain knowledge and skills in IT and receive a Technical Support Certificate Level 4, with 163 credits. In phase two of the training programme, participants will receive Further Education and Training Certificate (FETC) in Information Technology: Systems Development, Level 4, with 165 credits.
“I find this programme very useful, helpful and exciting. Furthermore, I’m very grateful to be presented with such an amazing opportunity and experience. One of my dreams is to start my own business where I can teach children and previously disadvantaged youths about computers and how to create websites,” said Lebogang Mongale, who is one of the participants in this programme.
This has been funded as part of Boikanyo Solar’s Socio-Economic Development Programme, which has a core focus on youth and education, within its local beneficiary communities.
