Shoprite and Checkers are bringing some much-needed festive cheer to almost 8 000 children and elderly people by hosting small celebrations at daycare centres, childrenâs homes and care facilities across the country.
This week Checkers surprised 80 children from the Limâuphile Agricultural Organisation at Sakhasonke Village in Walmer, Port Elizabeth, with hot dogs, cupcakes and goodie bags containing biscuits, party packs & school stationery.
“We would like to thank Shoprite and Checkers for their continued support. Our children come from poor families who cannot afford to buy Christmas presents, so this came at just the right time,â said Xolani Siwa, Project Leader of the Limâuphile Agricultural Organisation, which is one of the countryâs many community food gardens supported by Shoprite.
Siwa started the organisation by transforming a former illegal dumping site into a flourishing organic food garden. It is one of the 119 community food gardens which Shoprite supports as part of its ongoing efforts to enhance food security in South Africa.
