Mdantsane Mobile is a low-cost internet service provider based in Mdantsane. Mdaswifi builds, owns, and operates public community wi-fi networks in order to provide affordable internet access to communities, specifically focused on underprivileged areas. Residents with any smart device can connect to the network by simply signing in-to the wi-fi network, registering, and topping up using a printed voucher they purchase from their local spaza shop, via their debit card from home or by redeeming a 1Voucher coupon for data bundles.
We partner with spaza shops and residents to sell vouchers for a commission and make a profit for themselves as well. Our prepaid wi-fi vouchers start from R25 for 1,5 GB…R100 for 10GB and more. Residents can also link multiple devices to their Wi-Fi accounts where they can share bundles amongst friends and family.
We also connect homes/families to their own dedicated Uncapped Internet from just R399 per month. We also connect schools and businesses to Uncapped internet and provide value-add services such voice-over-internet (VoIP) and shared hosting to professionalize small businesses with dedicated, more professional e-mail addresses.
We do restaurant wi-fi where fast-food outlets, taverns, internet cafes, and more can offer wi-fi to their customers by generating their own vouchers for patrons. The voucher system is free for schools where schools can have a separate wi-fi network for guests which can be used by students and/guests, offering limited access which expires after the period defined by the school.
We have recently launched a Rural Connectivity Project: Phase 1 in partnership with the CSIR where Mdantsane became on of the first townships to deploy internet using the new TV White Space Technology.
“Television white spaces refer to unused frequencies in the wireless spectrum between TV broadcasts that can be utilized to provide broadband. It has since been researched and proven that this unused spectrum can be used to provide broadband Internet access while operating harmoniously with surrounding TV channels. This will increase once SA finally migrates from analogue to digital terrestrial television.
In addition, TV white space technologies provide an alternative but complementary ecosystem to LTE technologies and inexpensively deliver broadband.”
