As a people first brand – focused on unlocking potential – KFC Africa recently provided the perfect platform as a self-expression canvas to showcase just why their 12th secret ingredient really is their people with their first ever KFC’s Got Talent competition for their team members across the continent.
“We know that businesses hold considerable undiscovered talent and our recent internal talent competition proved that our teams’ skills sets and talents go far beyond creating delicious chicken meals,” says Mmenyana Ranku, Franchise Operations Director.
From dance acts and vocal performances to musical bands, stand-up performers and dance and vocal combo groups, 198 South African and Rest of Sub-Saharan Africa (RoSSA) KFC Talent crews, across 15 African countries, submitted videos for KFC’s Got Talent competition. That’s a total of 1005 African performers all vying for not only the chance to be coached by leading celebrity talent, but to showcase their performance at KFC’s leading conference stage and a shot at a cash prize.
Submission started in November last year with the Top 20 being chosen by the judges in December 2021. These 20 acts were then provided with detailed professional core coaching sessions to enhance their performances and give them an opportunity to turn up the heat in their final submissions. The Top 20 – hailing from across the continent including seven acts from South Africa, five from Swaziland, three acts from Ghana, two from Tanzania, one from Uganda, Botswana and Lesotho also got to spend valuable time with much loved South African entertainers – Tamara Dey, J-Something and Khaya Mthethwa.
But there can only be a Top 3 – and the field was further narrowed down to the top 3 acts that not only received core coaching sessions to fine tune their performances including voice training, stage production techniques and choreography, but they received sponsored hair, makeup and wardrobe make-overs as well as supporting acts to give them the x-factor needed as they take center stage at the KFC #1 Leaders Conference that took place on the 22 March 2022.
The Top 3 Acts included:
A vocal performance by the team at KFC Mdantsane Mall in the Eastern Cape, South Africa
A rapper dance group by the team at KFC Bronkhorstspruit in Gauteng, South Africa
A vocal and dance performance by the team at KFC Kabalagal in Uganda
In addition to the limelight, the Top 3 Talent Crews walked away with R40 000.00 to share between their talent crew members as well as R10 000.00 for their Crew’s restaurant.
“Its been an exceptional few months of showcasing the best in KFC talent. There is an abundance of untapped creatives on our continent, who only need a springboard to showcase their skills and this was an incredible platform to do just that,” concludes Ranku.
