In their quest to continue to improve the lives of young women in South Africa, BIC Soleil visited Nkube Secondary School at Leyden Village situated in Mokopane, Limpopo Province. The event was for Grade 10 to Grade 12 learners and was dedicated to motivating them, encouraging confidence, and providing information on careers that students can choose when they complete high school.
BIC Soleil Ambassador, Sherri Andreas, was one of the speakers and she took the learners through her life story, the challenges she overcame with having to move around to many different places and schools growing up and her career journey. She motivated them to always be confident and to work hard and smart to achieve their dreams. “You need to work hard and use all the resources that you can find to ensure that you work towards your goals, let opportunities find you ready. Do your research and ask for all the help you can get,” says Andreas.
Having been an underperforming school for many years, the school is working hard to improve the results and for this year. They aim to achieve over 70% matric pass rate, following a 68.2% pass rate in 2020. “Since last year, the school has implemented a number of activities with the aim of improving the school’s performance. We have introduced early morning classes, after-school tutoring sessions and holiday cluster camps, together with two other schools in our neighbouring villages, to ensure that learners get as much assistance as possible. We are grateful for brands like BIC who visit our schools to provide support and motivation for our learners,” said Grade 12 Teacher, Mr Kgahlane.
