After the wave of news about gender-based violence over the past weeks, a group of men have initiated the Centurion Gentleman’s Club. The club seeks to help women and decrease male objectification. The club’s ultimate goal is to do away with circumstances in which women could potentially be victimised.
For example, should a woman need assistance in changing a light-bulb, men at the Centurion Gentleman’s Club will do so for free.
Francois van Dyke, the founder of the club said, “I started this project to stand up when others won’t, to step up where some say, ‘it’s not my job’. To challenge every other man outside in this country to be the change to show women that men can be good”.
The Centurion Gentleman’s Club is a few days old but already has over 1000 supporters on Facebook. Members of the club plan to set up a programme for single moms and teach boys valuable skills.
