The South African Weather Service has warned of a cold snap over most of the country this weekend.
It’s the perfect weather to wrap up warmly and make yourself a hearty thick minestrone soup, even better with a freshy baked piece of bread. We all know that our desire for comfort food sets in when the weather is cold.
Unfortunately, for many who are unemployed and the homeless in our communities, the winter months are dreadful. No hot water on tap or a plate of warm food to find comfort in.
Mustadafin Foundation have launched their ‘Warm a body, Warm a heart’ campaign and are asking for your support.
Mustadafin Foundation serves the underprivileged communities of Western Cape, Eastern Cape and Zimbabwe. “We feed 27 910 people on average daily,” shares Ghairunisa Johnstone, Director of Mustadafin Foundation. “Without the generous support of the donations that we receive, many people would not have at least one warm meal a day.
“The Covid-19 pandemic has put even more pressure on us to provide meals for our communities, as many people have had to face unemployment and are not able to provide for their families. Unfortunately, our food lines are not getting any shorter.
“Through collective support, we can continue with the mission of providing relief to the destitute, protecting the most vulnerable and showing compassion to those most in need this winter,” explains Johnstone.
Mustadafin Foundation have several feeding schemes and partner with various organisations in and around the Western Cape. The Foundation supports and assists homeless shelters by providing blankets and meal ingredients to local shelters.
Some of the areas benefiting from the Winter Drive include Ceres, Laingsberg, Touwsriver, Beaufort West, Zoar, Worcester, Hopefield, Suurbrak, Montagu, Ashton, Robertson and Grabouw.
“We are appealing to the public to please help us to warm a body and to warm a heart. We are in desperate need of critical winter supplies including: winter garments, mattresses, blankets as well as groceries,” shares Johnstone.
