Vocational centres produce face masks.

Garissa vocational training centres, where the homeless are currently being kept in Kenya, have started producing face masks to give to the homeless as the Covid-19 fight intensifies.

A few months before the National lockdown began, the homeless where taken to Garissa Vocational training centres where they are currently sheltered. Though they were given accommodation, food and necessary things for survival, the need for face masks was also noted thereby leading the centres to produce these masks.

County Education Chief Mohammed Gure told the Press that some medical, fashion students, trainers and institution managers where helping each other working hands in glove to produce 50 000 masks in two weeks. He also mentioned that the target was to produce at least 100 000 face masks in a month.

“With necessary resources and support, the team from Bura, Mkono and Garissa main vocational training centres can make more masks,” he said.

Mr Gure also added that the facemasks will also be donated to flood victims in IDP camps and other vulnerable groups since more than enough masks are produced.

“Flood victims who are hosted at the vocational training centre have already received free masks,” he said.
