The Vitality Active Rewards programme has helped South Africans keep active and desire to live a more health-conscious lifestyle, but it’s done so much more than that.
MoveToGive
MoveToGive was launched in 2015 and is made up of a number of campaigns that help give back to communities in need. Since its launch, R7.8m has been donated to various causes.
The latest campaign
The latest MoveToGive campaign aims at raising money to help improve access to mental health services for underprivileged children and adolescents in Johannesburg and Soweto. This campaign is open for contributions until 18 December 2018.
The kindness of strangers
Dr Craig Nossel, head of Vitality Wellness, says that over 400 000 lives have been changed across South Africa because of Vitality Active Rewards.
“While we support and applaud increased physical activity for any reason, it’s heart-warming to witness how many people are more motivated to get active to help others.
We hope more people will rise to the challenge, and will use Vitality Active Rewards and MoveToGive as a platform to prove to one another that the spirit of ubuntu continues to thrive in our country.”
The donations have ranged from stationery packs, to sanitary packs; from meals to care packages; from bicycles to teddy bears. Over R370 000 in disaster relief was donated to affected communities and water and hand sanitisers were distributed during Cape Town’s water crisis.
“We’re humbled and thrilled to be a part of something that brings out the best in people – giving them a platform in which to do good for their fellow South Africans, while enriching their own lives through the many health benefits of increased physical activity,” says Nossel.
“This kind of crowdsourced philanthropy aligns strongly with our Vitality Shared-Value Insurance model, which seeks to benefit all stakeholders: members, through better health; insurers and investors, through reduced risk; and society as a whole, through healthier citizens and charitable initiatives like MoveToGive.”
