Mandela Day resonates with people globally. It is an opportunity to honour Madiba’s legacy and vision with a commitment to 67 minutes of community service. Inspired by Nelson Mandela’s example, the call is simple: take action and inspire change, in a way that acknowledges his 67-year struggle for social and economic justice in our country. UNICEF South Africa is keeping that flame alive by continually striving to reimagine a better tomorrow and a better future for every child.
The humanitarian intent behind volunteering 67 minutes on the 18th of July is to improve the welfare of others while celebrating the fact that each individual has the potential to transform the world. UNICEF South Africa recognises this and this year, in the spirit of Mandela Day, has initiated a campaign focused on making a difference in the fight against the long-term effects of the Covid-19 pandemic and its threat to vulnerable communities across the country.
Pledge-67 | One Nation | One Love calls on everyone to come together like never before this Mandela Month.
Pledge-67
[Nelson Mandela]
The global pandemic has touched everyone, but the impact has been most felt in under-resourced communities. Our children need us now more than ever. The devastating impact of COVID-19 has threatened children’s basic rights. In light of lockdown levels, restrictions and social distancing, UNICEF South Africa has realised that our individual commitment to ‘67 minutes’ will need to look a little different this year.
As coronavirus cases are increasing and the livelihoods of many are at risk, the stakes are high. With #Pledge-67, UNICEF South Africa is inviting you to help by going a step further.
Simply put, #Pledge-67 is a creative Covid-19 solution asking you to swap your minutes for ‘moolah’ this Mandela Month. By pledging just R67/month, you can make a difference, not just on one day, but every day, to support vulnerable children in South Africa. UNICEF South Africa promises to put your #Pledge-67 donation to work in our four targeted areas of health and hygiene, nutrition, education, and child protection. Ask not what R67/month means to you, ask what just R67/month will mean to a vulnerable child. I want to become a pledge donor. One Nation[Nelson Mandela] 2020 has seen the world change drastically, and yet our collective responsibility, as one humanity, has not changed. UNICEF South Africa salutes Madiba in his fight for democracy and freedom. But the fight continues, and Mandela Month becomes a momentary pause to redefine our way forward and our work, as one nation and one people, to bring about a better tomorrow, a better future and a better South Africa for all. As Covid-19 sweeps across our land, leaving much devastation in its wake, we must work together to protect those who have been impacted. Our nation has been put to the test, and #Pledge-67 offers a small way to give back. I want to take action and inspire change. One Love[Nelson Mandela] Mandela Month is a wonderful opportunity to show our love for our country and its people. The cumulative action of a compassionate community has the power to transform lives and society as a whole. All it takes is love… and R67/month?
