Turkey responds to 71 vulnerable children in Harare

Turkey has donated food hampers worth thousands of dollars to a Mt Hampden home called Tears of Hope owned by Gogo Onai Nhiwitiwa in Zimbabwe.

Tears of Hope is an unregistered foster home in Mt Hampden – Harare, that recently drew the attention of the Turkish government in the past months during the massive spread of the coronavirus in the country.

The home has been in dire need of food, water and proper sanitation since the beginning of lockdown in Zimbabwe. With the economy dwindling, Gogo Onai ,the care taker of the home has been struggling to feed the 71 children currently living at the home.

The Turkish Co-operation and Coordination Agency (TIKA) is a government department of the Prime Ministry of Turkey founded in 1992 and is responsible for organisation of the bulk of Turkey’s official development assistance to developing countries.

Talking about the donation, Turkish Embassy official Mr Adam Wadi said the government was happy to help change people’s lives in different communities. He also highlighted that the donation made was in line with the necessities the orphanage needed.

“TIKA, through the Embassy of the Turkey as part of its efforts to uplift livelihoods in communities has donated to this (foster) house, whose noble cause require a helping hand in the form of these groceries,” he said.

The foster home has no running water and proper ablution facilities and is still in need of help during the tough pandemic times.
