Animal lovers in Khayelitsha, Cape Town don’t need to be worried about the well -being of their pets as Mdzananda Animal Clinic will remain open for serious cases during the lockdown. Pets are often brought to the clinic with broken bones, fractures and wounds after being hit by vehicles.
For instance, a community member found an injured dog on the road and it had reportedly been unable to walk for three days. “The Good Samaritan picked the dog up and brought it straight to the Mzananda Animal Clinic I shudder to think how long this dog would have suffered if we were not open during the lockdown.” said Dr Lara Murray at Mzanandas Animal Clinic.
13 experienced staff including veterinarians have committed themselves to help pets in pain. According to Marcelle du Plessis, Mzananda Fundraising and Communications Manager, “Unfortunately we are not able to run at full capacity during this time, but we are open to any pets from the Khayelitsha community with life-threatening emergencies. We will make sure no animals suffer”
Pre-lockdown animal patients that will be cared for until they are healthy and can return home and the Mdzananda’s Animal Ambulance will also be operating with staff who will be wearing gloves, masks and carrying sanitisers.
